NMiF Discusses Arrest in Muslim Killings, Congress Leaders Talk Climate Issues: UNM Newsroom

This week on New Mexico in Focus, the Line Opinion Panel talks about the arrest made in the murder of four Muslim men and how Albuquerque’s Islamic community can recover from such a tragic incident.

The panel also explores issues facing parents, students and teachers at the start of the new school year. Panelists are also reacting to New Mexico Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver’s testimony to Congress about threats she and her colleagues have received since the 2020 election.

Laura Paskus, senior producer of “Our Land,” speaks with two New Mexico leaders in Congress. Senator Martin Heinrich and Representative Melanie Stansbury explain the climate legislation running through their chambers.

Photojournalist Benjamin Yazza captures a community gathering at the 100th Tribal Ceremony in Gallup. After a horrific incident that left more than a dozen people injured, strength and resilience prevailed in the historic celebration of indigenous culture.

New Mexico in Focus airs on NMPBS 5.1 (KNME HD) Friday, August 12 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, August 14 at 7 a.m., and streams on the PBS video app.
