Learn more about climate issues at the next League of Women Voters event

BATAVIA, IL – The Central Kane County League of Women Voters will host an online event on April 14 to discuss climate issues and how they can be impacted at the local level.

The “Spring into Climate Action” will take place from 7 p.m. via Zoom. Participants will learn about climate issues, how they connect to communities in Fox Valley, and how to get involved with the group’s climate action team.

Bill Koehl, a member of the LWV of Central Kane County and the environmental team of the League of Women Voters of Illinois, said the event addresses the fact that climate change is not just a global issue, but also locally.

“The latest report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change shows that we must act now to avoid the worst, but what does ‘act now’ mean?” Koehl said in a statement. “Fossil fuels and other commercial interests are fighting mitigation efforts at the state, federal and international levels.

He continued: “For this reason, community members often have the greatest impact focusing on their local councils and county councils. The influence we have at the local level can have lasting positive impacts at the local level. state and national level.

Group vice-president Jean Pierce said organizers “encourage community members to make a positive difference by educating themselves about environmental issues.”
