Governor of Gombe hails Buhari for appointment of Dahiru as Director General of Climate Change
Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya hailed President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing Dr Salisu Dahiru as the pioneering Chief Executive Officer and Chief Executive of the National Council on Climate Change.
He also commended the President for demonstrating his commitment to bringing Nigeria to net zero emissions by 2060, in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement, which is a legally binding international treaty on climate change. The council is charged with the responsibility of driving the implementation of Nigeria’s climate change agenda.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya, in a statement released by his Director General for Press Affairs, Ismaila Uba Misilli, described Buhari’s appointment of Dr. Dahiru “as a well-deserved appointment given his pedigree as an expert in managing environmental resources, forester, seasoned. academic and highly cerebral figure with impeccable footprints in the conduct and implementation of climate change policy nationally and internationally.
Governor Inuwa recalled Dahiru’s role as the pioneer of Nigeria’s Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) program and as the country’s lead negotiator for the agriculture, Forests and Other Land Uses (AFOLU) under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. , UNFCCC, noting that in both assignments, the new DG has distinguished himself and proven himself.
