IMPHAL: Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh said reliance on fossil fuels must be reduced in order to tackle the threat of global warming.
The Manipur CM indicated that efforts should be made to consider the use of renewable energy.
“As global warming poses a real threat, we need to find ways to reduce our reliance on burning fossil fuels and consider other renewable and sustainable energy sources,” said Manipur CM Biren Singh.
Manipur CM Biren Singh made the statement during the inaugural ceremony of the two-day sensitization workshop on “Electric Vehicles, Charging Infrastructure and Renewable Hybrid Energy in North East India” at Imphal East City Convention Center.
Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh also released the Manipur Electric Mobility Policy, 2022 on Wednesday.
Manipur CM Biren Singh said, “To embrace and accelerate the pace of adoption of electric vehicles, the ‘Manipur Electric Mobility Policy, 2022’ was notified in August this year.”
He said the policy aims to facilitate the adoption of at least 20% electric vehicles in Manipur by 2026.
Carbon emissions from vehicles also contribute to climate change, Manipur’s chief minister has said.
He added that e-vehicles are a leading solution adopted globally to address vehicle pollution issues.
