Donald Trump says global warming is good because it means more ‘beachfront property’

Try thinking about that for literally a second.

Renowned scientist and former government employee Donald Trump spoke at the right-wing festival cringe the Conservative Political Action Conference on Saturday – where he made hair-raising comments about climate change.

In the rambling keynote, Trump downplayed the impact of climate change while ridiculing President Joe Biden for his interest in environmental issues.

“We have a world that is ready to explode and disintegrate because of energy and it talks about global warming,” Trump said in the speech. He went on to say that rising sea levels will result in “giving you a bit more beachfront property.”

Of course, his comments are completely wrong – reducing the land mass of the planet would be slightly reduce the total amount of ribs, due to the basic geometry – because remember: he’s a moron.

A recent report from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration found that sea levels along US coastlines alone could rise by an average of 10 to 12 inches in the next 30 years. That could mean coastal cities like New York and Miami could start experiencing regular flooding even on storm-free days. So yes, some people might have extra shoreline, but only because of the grim devastation affecting other owners.

The UN has also released Monday report who painted an even more dire picture of the climate crisis and said irreversible melting ice would lead to widespread flooding of coastal areas.

But these facts do not matter for a real estate mogul who tends to fabricate alternate truths to create comfortable narratives for his own interests.

As president, he officially withdrew the United States from the Paris climate agreement and even appointed oil and gas executives to high-level cabinet posts – so it’s hardly surprising that he’s willing to downplay deadly sea level rise even if it will affect the places it lives.
